Feds to Push Health IT Forward in 2006
There are many great things that could come from initiatives like this, but who is keeping the big picture in perspective? Standards and Optimization have helped interface technologies, such as the HL7 messaging standard. However, there are still many areas of this technology that need to be standardized. Healthcare IT is a much broader topic, surely many times as complex. If the government is going to champion the movement, they should have industry leaders in the drivers seat. Keep a close eye on things like this, and review the findings of the commissions they create. It will be interesting to see if things will end up as mind numbing as HIPAA, or presented in layman's terms.
